Community Led Habitat Creation in Local Parks

Initial focus Windsor Gardens, Clearview, Enfield and Ottoway

NE Community House  27-31 Queensborough Ave, Hillcrest

If you are interested in getting involved in a community led project in your area with these objectives:

  • creating habitat for local native butterflies, bees, birds etc
  • creating a garden that has interpretive educative signs
  • getting involved with local people to improve your environment
  • increasing green cover to help cool your area
  • creating a valuable space for you and your family to care for and enjoy
  • Bringing Back the Butterflies (and birds, bees and other critters)

Academic research tells us that people are healthier when they are more connected with nature and other people in positive constructive ways. You can contribute to a win for nature and yourself by getting involved in a project like this and we want to hear your views about how, together, we can make it work.

The sites that Port Adelaide Enfield Council have ear-marked for us to work in this year are:

  • Maclauchlan Rd Reserve @ WIndsor Gardens
  • Austral Ave Reserve @ Clearview
  • Wheeler Park in Enfield
  • Emerald Park Reserve in Ottoway
  • and a park on the corner of Rosewater Tce and Grand Junction Rd Ottoway

BBB’s vision is to engage nearby residents in designing, creating and maintaining strong connections with these habitats. This could include helping to grow the plants to be used in the sites, learning about the connections between local flora and fauna, spreading the message about the importance of habitat for our fauna in our urban spaces, helping to establish the gardens and helping to care for them in the longer term and reporting observations of returning wildlife as new citizen scientists.

Come along and meet the BBB Team, PAEC representatives and your neighbours, share your ideas and find out more.
